Wednesday, April 21: Edgard Varèse Celebration

1. FILM: Varèse: The One All Alone. A Film about Edgard Varèse (2009) by Frank Scheffer (U.S. Premiere), with commentary by Chou Wen-chung and Frank Scheffer

2. CONCERT: The Complete Large Chamber Works of Edgard Varèse. Music by Edgard Varèse and his disciple, Chou Wen-chung with Ensemble Parallèle (Nicole Paiement, conductor), and the UCSC Percussion Ensemble (William Winant, director).

3. Contemporary Music Ensemble Korea and Del Sol String Quartet. World Premieres of 10 new works.


Friday, April 23

4. Contemporary Music Ensemble Korea and Lydian String Quartet. World Premieres of new works by composers Chinary Ung, David Evan Jones, Hi Kyung Kim, Paul Nauert, Geon-Yong Lee, Sung-Ki Kim, Yu-Hui Chang, David Rakowski, Kurt Rohde, Laurie San Martin, Ken Ueno, Chou Wen-chung, as well as graduate students from UCSC, UCD, Brandeis, and Korean National University of Arts.


Saturday, April 24

5. New York New Music Ensemble
Works by Andrew Imbrie, Charles Wuorinen, Chou Wen-chung, Lei Liang, David Cope, and Jeremy Sagala.


Sunday, April 25

6. Gamelan Sekar Jaya with the UCSC Gamelan Ensembles. Works by Bill Alvis, Lou Harrison, Nano S, Jose Maseda, and Wayne Vitale.
